Write in order to know

‘I do not write because I know. I write in order to know, by raising the subconscious to the level of the conscious mind.’ Hermann Keyserling

I journal every day, not because I have anything particularly interesting to write but because I want to understand. I can start with an absolute mess in mind and feelings and a page later or half a page or four pages later depending on how big the mess is, I have clarity, a way forward, a way to approach the day with positivity and joy. Often I will have no idea whatsoever what I want to write about, simply a need to write.

I highly recommend journaling to anyone who wishes to embark upon a process of change or wants to know oneself better. If you ask yourself good questions the answers will come. Is there a pattern of behaviour that no longer feels healthy or beneficial for you? Do you react in a way that you don’t enjoy to a given provocation? Ask yourself about it and write it out. The first step to change is to become aware.
